Brother James writes about some of the children who have recently been admitted to RTU's children's villages:

"One of the last children I admitted was an 8 year old street child, Murugeswari. For the last two years she has spent her days begging on the streets and bus stand of a nearby town."

"Sneka and Seema are two tiny, stunted girls, one is 6 and the other is 4. Stunted because of undernourishment, the polite, evasive word for semi-starvation. Both their parents attempted suicide, one way out of impossible hardships, by setting themselves on fire."

Paul Abbott has cycled 2777 miles from Manchester to Kallupatti, to raise over £8000 for RTU's house-building projects. OK, he didn't manage to cycle every inch of the way, but his epic trip from Manchester to Istanbul makes fascinating (and sometime harrowing) reading. Then from Mumbai to Kallupatti, heat and health issues forced him onto Indian buses for a lot of the journey. But he made it, and in time for Brother James' 85th birthday! Click the picture to visit his website and read his journal.  Or click here to donate online and add to his wonderful total - and build more houses.

50 years old = 5 challenges!!!!! And in the case of supporter Chris Plumb, 5 cycle rides - including Land's End to John O'Groats!  Not as far as Paul Abbott, but just as worth sponsoring.  Chris has finished his rides, but you can still support him. Click here to donate towards his £2500 target online.

Welcome!

Reaching the Unreached is a registered UK charity, set up to support work amongst orphaned children and poor villagers is a small area west of Madurai in India's southernmost state of Tamil Nadu.

The organisation in south India is run by a local Board and Indian management team. RTU was founded in 1975 by Brother James Kimpton who - now in his mid-eighties - is still actively involved with the work as President of RTU in India.  Read more
Here in the UK, we aim to tell more people about the life-changing activities in India, and raise financial support to enable the work to continue and develop.

Look round our website to find out more, for example click here to read about the Children's Villages where hundreds of orphaned or abandoned children live. Or use the links across the top of the page!

In our June Newsletter, Brother James writes about the history of RTU's educational work.

"The primary school was very small and lacking in classrooms, offices, water, toilets, kitchen.  Some classes were held in a cow-shed the other side of the village.   RTU built several classrooms, office facilities, a kitchen, a pre-school, and put in water and toilets."

At the end of June 2010 there were 967 young people in the care of RTU, from babies to students studying at college; from orphans to those with parents suffering from AIDS. 102 children are themselves HIV+.

More than 40% of RTU's costs are provided by donors in the UK.

Thank you.
